True gay stories

As a gay dude, you may be surprised to notice that one of the biggest hurdles I faced was going into a gay bar for the first time.

At 17-years-old, I was in awe of my straight mates. They’d been wandering into bars and nightclubs for the last year with the only threat of getting asked for age identification.

At 17 years antique, my straight mates were not only getting drunk most Friday and Saturday nights but were boasting about sleeping around with members of the antonym sex without any worry. Whether they’d slept with many of those they mentioned was reveal to debate.

At 17 years old, it was against the law for me to sleep with a person of the same sex. If I boasted about it, I could get myself into trouble. The law stated that, for my protection, sex remained on hold until I reached 21.

Of course, I overlooked that particular part of the law. Enjoy any red-blooded male at 17, my hormones made my brain think of little else but wanting to (putting it mildly) receive laid.

“Do you act rugby?”

That was the first question I was asked at my first-ever interview for a full-time job.

“And what about girlfriends? How many do you have?”

But worse was to reach.

Two weeks later, I started my job as an office junior and settled in rapidly, but I had to hide the fact that I was gay.

I did everything I could to stay in the closet. I had to create sure nobody suspected. I even made jokes about rugby balls being bent to the office manager, a strange-looking man who was years ahead of being one of the professors from Harry Potter. I felt ashamed of myself, but it was something I thought I had to do to protect who I was.

But, worse still, I made these jokes in front of a colleague who everyone in the office (apart from me at the time) suspected was gay. Nobody wanted to refer the elephant in the room.

At first, I didn’t realise Paul was homosexual even though he spoke about Kenny a lot. One day, he took a telephone summon from Kenny; the secretary opposite loo

When we were growing up there were few (if any) gay love stories around for us to be exposed to, whether in real life,  on TV, or anywhere else in the media.

We would have absolutely loved to have been able to learn that gay adoration stories do exist and that gay relationships and gay romance could be real, true and loving.

That’s why in this blog post we wanted to share some real-life lgbtq+ love stories from some of our followers on Instagram in the desire that we can spread the message that like really is for all. [no_toc]

In the year of our fickle goddess 2022, we undertook a massive Autostraddle Reader Survey, and out of that survey so much information and so many delightful anecdotes were shared with us, including the tidbits I shared in a list entitled “The 68 Absolutely Gayest Ways You Met Your Gay Partner(s).” But there were some stories about how you met your significant other(s) that were a little bit longer and a lot bit adorable, and today I am here to contribute some of those with you.
