Elex Michaelson, 34 from Los Angeles, is a news anchor with Fox 11 News and host of the political show The Issue Is. He shares with Men's Health how he transformed his lifestyle after gaining weight during the pandemic.
Before Covid hit, staying active was a priority. I worked with a trainer several times a week, went for runs on my own, played basketball on weekends, and regularly attended collective fitness classes. The pandemic stopped almost all of that. Gyms closed, and all group activities—basketball, classes etc.—all stopped. My main origin of cardio fitness was non-existent. Fond so many, I was more stressed. And when I get more stressed, I eat more. Slowly but surely, I started putting on pounds.
I'm 6'5", and I started the pandemic at about 215 pounds. Around a year later, I was 230 pounds. My "slim fit" suits didn't fit any more because I was no longer "slim." It became harder to button my suit jackets on the air.

Joining the ranks a couple of months ago Michaelson is a general assignment reporter. Whether he is covering breaking news at 4:30 a.m. or hitting the streets to hear what people have to say on gas prices, he has been busy.
After Michaelson graduated from Agoura Hills High, he got his degree in Journalism and Political Science from the Annenburg Academy of Journalism at USC. He went straight to San Diego to perform as a writer and anchor for San Diego 6 news, and covered President Obama's inaguration. In 2009, he won an Emmy Award for most outstanding arts/entertainment story.
