Colton Haynes: MTV Boss Nearly Rejected Me From ‘Teen Wolf’ Over Past Gay Photoshoot
Colton Haynes was a series regular on the MTV supernatural drama series “Teen Wolf” for two seasons, but the player reveals in his new memoir, “Miss Memory Lane,” that he almost didn’t get cast in the role of Jackson Whittemore. According to Haynes, the head of MTV at the day didn’t want to hire him because of the gay-themed XY Magazine photo shoot he did as a teenager years before the show.
Haynes writes in his memoir that his manager told him (via Business Weekly), “Look what almost happened, Colton. The head of MTV almost didn’t hire you because of that XY photo shoot we’ve been working our asses off to extinguish. Thank god [showrunner Jeff Davis] fought for you to get that role.”
Haynes added that Davis “indeed fought for me,” adding, “I was grateful to him, and eager not to fuck up the opportunity.”

— -- "Arrow" star Colton Haynes took Hollywood to task for what he says is its poor treatment of gay actors.
The actor, who came out publicly in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in May 2016, took to Twitter on Tuesday to rail against homophobia in Hollywood.
"Hollywood is so f---ed up," Haynes tweeted to his 1.96 million followers. "So much of the focus is on your personal life & has nothing to undertake with the talent you have to bring to the table."
He went on to say how that his personal life shouldn't limit what roles he plays.
Haynes broke out playing Jackson Whittemore on MTV's "Teen Wolf" before landing the role of Roy Harper on CW's "Arrow." He'll appear next as Detective Samuels in FX's "American Horror Story: Cult."
He thanked the openly queer creators of those three series for casting him.

Colton Haynes, who is best known for playing Jackson in Teen Wolf and Arsenal in Arrow, publicly came out as gay in 2016.
Colton Haynes has opened up about creature gay in the acting industry and how hard it's been to find roles since he came out.
In 2016, Colton Haynes publicly came out as same-sex attracted after rumours about his sexuality and photos from his past surfaced online. Speaking to Business Weekly about his decision to come out, Colton said: "It took me so long to get to this point, but I’m doing so good. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and healthier than I’ve ever been, and that’s what I care about."
Now, Colton has revealed how that decision has impacted his career and called out Hollywood for failing gay actors.

Haynes describes his hometown of Andale, Kansas, as a place where “you just couldn’t be gay.” When he came out to his friends and family, the thespian said his parents were devastated, which prompted him to run away from home for three weeks. He said he was staying with a companion when he learned that his father, William, had committed suicide.
“I was told that my dad killed himself because he found out I was gay. So, of course, I lost it and was like, ‘How could you say something enjoy that?’ And no one will ever really comprehend the truth,” he recalled.
