Gay Characters in Kdramas: The Good, The Bad, and The Mediocre

Gay characters rarely show up in Korean dramas. Though there have been a few characters over the years,  In terms of representation, the characterization and stories of these characters are usually nothing to write home about, but I figured, why not pen about it anyway? Here’s my observe and don’t view list, if you’re looking for male lover characters in kdramas.

Warning for spoilers galore!

The Mediocre (these aren’t bad, but they’re not the leading either)

Lily Fever (2015)

The Story: Kyung Ju heads to her friends house one day to spot her missing passport. She finds Se Rang instead.

Should You Watch?: Sure. This show is quirky and just downright odd. The termination leaves a lot to be desired and the story itself is compassionate of all over the place, but it’s cute, it’s funny, it’s concise, most of it’s nonsense, and the girls have lots of chemistry. It’s only a bonus that Se Rang is a standout character of this show. You’ll probably fall for her yourself by the end of the webseries.

The Lover: Joon Jae and Takuya (2015)

The Story: Different couples reside together in an apartment building

Though I contain not watched all of these K-dramas, I do want to spotlight two that I contemplate were wonderfully done, especially in the time they were created. Those two dramas are “Painter of the Wind” and “Coffee Prince”, which, for me, had honest portrayals of what is meant to question either your gender or your sexuality. The other shows highlighted below are the variety show “Showterview with Jessi” and the K-dramas “Love With Flaws” and “XX”.
